Framestore CFC: “Sugar Battery”

Sugar Battery,” a new visual essay from Framestore CFC‘s design team, is a solid follow up to their previous “Hydrogen” for production company Coast. Taking a simple, straightforward script, Framestore’s Adam Parry and team crafted a tightly animated and charmingly designed spot that adds several layers of interest to the script’s expository core.

This is nicely designed and executed, but there is a lack of visual metaphor that a piece like this needs. To me it’s a case of nice design with no ideas. The scientific ‘break-apart’ type illustrations and city building at the end are both hackneyed and over-used techniques.
