Saam Farahmand: Soulwax: Machine Trailer NSFW

Saam is back with “Machine” for Belgian electronic pioneers Soulwax, creating a truly unique interpretation of the ethos behind the audio-visual-obsessional-onslaught that is the Radio Soulwax App. This is a definite NSFW.

Definitely very sexy, and extraordinarily well executed. It’s admirable to see a director that’s pushing the personal work and promos harder and harder. Whether the full “journey” of the melted vinyl is taking the limits of taste a bit too far is really down to personal discretion, but when artists jump on projects like this, and work without boundaries, it’s great to see someone bold enough to create films at this level that test the limits.

Nice.
But not so sexy… I perceive it as bit sexist. WTF a naked (and shaved) woman? Change the female by a male and let’s reconsider the whole thing.

Oliver Lardner

I couldn’t see that she was shaved, obviously need a re-watch… Plus it’s soulwax… c’mon! OF COURSE she’d be shaved :P

This is one of the best things ive seen so far this year. And it doesnt seem sexist to me.. its not sexist just because there is naked woman. I also dont get why is it more sexist when she is shaved (its probably something cultural coz i dont see the diference).

The slow camera, the tension it generates when it goes down (im sure lots of people were excited whats gonna happen next) is truly genious!

Chris Roth

not sexist.
come on.

You have to admit, the woman is COMPLETELY objectified. SHe’s literally an object in a factory line.

Anonymous

how would it be less sexist if it were a male?

Blake P Landry

I think it’s kinda silly for this to be a main post….

Mike Fix

One word: AWESOME!

Oliver Lardner

I love the fact that at my office, not only can I open NSFW links, but everyone gathers around to watch :P

This is the way life should be lived; with honesty.

Chris Roth

the still shot of the girl below the video ruined the surprise for me… come on Motionogapher!

Andrew Daffy

I agree, and I helped build some of that tension. come on Motionographer.

Justin Cone

So sorry we ruined your moments of tension. We’ll try harder next time.

Andrew Daffy

I agree, and I helped build some of that tension. come on Motionographer.

Am I the only one that think she has a bad case of the runs?

Mark

Am I the only one who thinks she has a bad case of the runs. I think it’s great work but I cried laughing when it got to that part where it it coming out of her. Gross.

Zach Eastburg

There’s a difference between pushing boundaries and cheap punches.
Did the shame thing for the Klaxons. facepalm

Powster

this visualizes radio soulwax to perfection, especially with that grainy 70’s quality the whole video has. Brilliant.

Laurence Miller

Amazing! I wish people could see the art in this and stop taking offense. The mother of all music! She is music through and through.

Carlos A. Cortes

I think this is great, these feelings of suspense is and anxiety while watching it really struck me. btw, I really don’t think the woman represents sexiness….it’s just like another part of the whole process. I found it very pleasing to watch.

Elisabeth Sørsæther Stene

don’t see the point of including the woman, she has no part in the story. other than sex sells of course.
