Nieto for Cracker Barrel

Beautiful – and clever – piece by Nieto and Paranoid US for Cracker Barrel. Love the moments with the rolling egg and flipped pancake where the direction of up and down switches mid-air.

Nice, the pancake flip is particularly clever. Good design especially for a Cracker Barrel!

Part of me is impressed that they appear to be influenced by the art of Joseph Cornell. The other part of me says “They’ve taken the body of Joseph Cornell, tied it to the bumper of the General Lee, and dragged it through the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel while screaming out the window ‘Nuthin’ is sacred!”

I too was thoroughly impressed at this spot when I saw it on TV, but it was strangely familiar. The name of the artist escaped my mind until you reminded me soapy. Thanks. I hear what you’re saying about Cracker Barrel>General Lee—–>~~~Joseph Cornell, but what if anything these days is “original”. Mind you i’m not saying outright copying is ok. It’s a fine line I guess, where “intention” of the artists is the key that holds the balance.

The body of Joseph Cornell has been dragged behind many other vehicles well before this, although southern culture seems to take a shine to him a little more often than others (see CMT’s (and GAC following suit) rebrand around 2006). But even though Cornell seemed to have a thing for eggs, I don’t think this very well thought-out piece is sacrilege.

I will say, though, that they left the best thing about Cracker Barrel out of the spot… the biscuits!!! Brilliant, though!

What I really want to know is – how the heck? Is it moco?

Funny… the first reference that i saw was the Gondry clip for Massive Attack’s “Protection”.
