mcbess & Simon for Good Books: Havana Heat (vaguely NSFW)

Last spring, Buck and Antfood blew our minds with “Metamorphosis,” a psychedelic short promoting charity-friendly book retailer, Good Books. Written in the style of Hunter S. Thompson, the short was the first in the Great Writers series masterminded by String Theory.

For the latest entry, String Theory worked with the combined directorial powers of mcbess and Simon (The Mill). Set in an idealized Cuba of yesteryear, “Havana Heat” channels the steamy pulp of romance novels.

Good Book’s marketing messages are comically intertwined with a long chain of tensely retrained eroticism. Rendered in a muted jewel-tone palette and tantalizingly curvaceous line work, the spot’s relentless barrage of double entendres will doubtless quicken your pulse even as you chuckle at it.

Check out the Q&A with mcbess and Simon on The Mill’s blog.

And if you missed it last spring, watch Buck’s “Metamorphosis.”
