Motion Design: 10 Second Survey

Lilian Darmono, Lola Landekic, Victoria Nece and Bran Dougherty-Johnson have put together a quick (10 seconds or less) survey to get a basic sense of gender balance in motion design and related industries.

Recent conversations about the motion design community have pointed to a problem: there is very little data available about key issues like gender, geography, and experience. Let’s fix that.

We’re interested in hearing from creatives across the Motion Design/Animation/VFX/Gaming industries, including those who don’t use a digital workflow or animate personally.

This is an informal survey. Your answers will help move the conversation forward.

Please take a few seconds to complete the survey, and then share it with your friends.

    this should be interesting!

I often find myself answering “animator” to the question “what do you do?” because often no one knows what a motion designer even is.

    • Interesting! Out of curiosity, in which city do you work?

    • I guess “animator” covers it – it would be tough to be a motion designer without *being* an animator.

In my country ”animator” means a person who entertains people, kind of like a comedian.

Interesting study. Except it really should include race too. There is way more of a racial imbalance than a gender imbalance. I see women around the studios all the time. Even as Art Directors or CDs.

I do not see African Americans, however. In any capacity. I might have seen 2-3 in my entire career. 2 designers and a coordinator or two.

    Just a thought.

  • JPE, you’re absolutely right. Hopefully we can follow up and do that in another survey.

  • I guess I was too late. The survey is gone :(
