VFX TD

Specializing in feature film visual effects and animation for international and local producers, Toronto based digital studio, Mr. X Inc. is comprised of a unique and gifted team of artists, filmmakers and programmers devoted to the art, craft and technology of visual story-telling.

The duties are a mix of CG and VFX shot work, development and maintenance of in-house software, and providing assistance to artists executing production tasks.
Responsibilities:
• Primarily responsible for the development of visual effects for feature films under the guidance of a departmental project lead.
• Work directly with artists to define simulation workflows and interfaces and address shading, lighting and rendering challenges.
• Build and maintain the VFX toolset (Houdini OTL's, Maya MEL scripts).
• Assist in the on-going development of the production pipeline software (mostly python and C++)
Requirements:
• At least 3 years feature production experience as a Technical Director including experience with Houdini, Maya/MEL, and Renderman.
• Working knowledge of current VFX practices and photorealistic lighting techniques.
• Experience with VFX simulation: cloth, particles, fluids.
• Good working knowledge of python.
• Experience with C or C++, java, OpenGL, MFC, and version control (CVS) a plus.
• Experience with Nuke and Massive a plus.
• Good knowledge of Unix/Linux a plus.
• Ability to adapt CG solutions to follow changing production notes in a dynamic environment.
• Must be detail oriented, organized, have good communication skills, and be able to independently handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline (advanced degree preferred), or equivalent experience.
