Three Legged Legs: Humans!

In a style reminiscent of Psyop’s Anthem, Three Legged Legs’ Humans! is a charming little short that debuted at the Otis Senior Show last week.

Everything about this piece clicks: the concept, the writing, the animation, the shading and even the voiceover talent (exceptionally good for a student piece) all fit together to make a thoroughly entertaining, well-paced experience. Adding the bit with the moon at the end created a wonderful narrative arc that sealed the deal for me.

Casey, Greg and Reza have really put themselves on the map with Humans! I’m excited to see what they do next.

Actually, one thing I know they’ll be doing soon is updating their web presence with some other new work. I’m sure that’ll be worth checking out.

I’ve been waiting a long time to see this and it didn’t disappoint, the ‘legs are quickly becoming one of my favourite studios. Uh, collectives. Whatever.

Clarify something for me though – are Casey, Greg and Reza all Otis students? Surely not with the commercial work they have done? Maybe I just don’t understand the American Education system…

Some ideas or look they actually took from somewhere else:

The sun -> shynola (athlete promo)

    Psyop Anthem of course

Magnifying glass (promo for super furry animals by french duo numero 6)

The little guy with the crosses for the eyes.(not sure who it belongs to)

Nice execution but some “inspiration” going on there.

someone tell me if im wrong but surely inspiration is what this industry is all about? i think its a great job, that has an original concept and a very attractive look about it. if some of the elements were inspired by others then great.

    well done the legs,

    nice work

Erm, I don’t think it’s right to say these things are inspired by a certain piece. After all, the studios you mentioned, are not coming up with ideas out of nowhere.

I think the best part of this animated story is humans as virus, infecting other planets. That part is unique and original.

I don’t think we should be so concerned with what recognizable medium gets the job done, when we already know what tools and resources at our disposal. Everything is going to slightly resemble something else we’ve seen at this point as continues to boil down into the core idea itself. I think one must remember what matters most is on the inside, not the outside. This piece has a very strong message told in a fun and humorous way, which makes it even stronger. The illustration and animation style looks pretty original too anyway, if you ask me.

    Well done 3LL.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but a majority of us are here to take ideas and be inspired aren’t we?

Well done Casey, Greg and Reza – Keep it up!

    Yeah,
Can you all insert a code that automatically rejects comments that just say
“Oh that look was copied from X…”
    Boring.
    Move on.
    Thanks.

Thanks so much for the kind words.
and a special thanks to chris do for all his help and advice.

the voice over talent is a guy that we found off of craigs list. I’m sure we will use him again in the near future.
