After You

After You is a short animation by what appears to be a student at Ringling School of Art and Design; A school I was unaware of until now. Christopher Cordingley created a specail story in a simple language. It’s worth watching twice, the second time you’ll notice the moment the turtle realizes he’s still capable of using his good arm. It plays out like an animated children’s book for adults. There’s also some sophistication in the character’s expressions that it just wouldn’t be right not to mention it in the post. Really Christopher, you nailed those expressions.

It’s definitely a nice piece, but didn’t this come out 2 years ago? I remember seeing this on a Siggraph DVD in my last year of college.

You’re probably right. I obviously missed it. Maybe some one else did too. Here it is though, still awesome.

I believe this piece did come out a couple of years ago.
definitely check out meng vue’s new piece, The Dancing Thief, also a Ringling graduate.
It recently won him a student academy award.

First time I’ve seen it, so I’m glad Palazzo posted it.

I’m downloading The Dancing Thief now. Thanks, Christopher.

Am I the only one who can’t get it to load?

David Lewandowski

yeah, it’s ©2003..

Cant load the page..!! :(

Weird. It’s loading fine for me. (Firefox 1.5 on OS X)

I seriously considered Ringling. Good school for mograph.

Oh, and I checked out the The Dancing Thief. While it has its moments, I think After You is a much stronger piece all around. (Maybe I was just overly distracted by the shoddy sound design in The Dancing Thief.)

interesting piece…some really nice character moments, but the music is really, *really* bad…distractingly bad…it’s poorly played and doesn’t really match the mood of the piece. this probably would’ve worked better as a slient or nearly-slient piece

yeah the music sucks, but ringling computer animation majors are required to compose there own music or use royalty free material, of which i think it is the latter. ringling is an amazing school and has an amazing job placement percentage for Computer animation and graphic design. though i should point out, justin, that the computer animation department focuses strictly on character animation, while the design deparment is just beginning to blossom in motion graphics.

Jose Rodriguez

Poor Bogo and Eat Your Peas are other Computer Animation shorts made that same year. Ringling School is quite amazing, expect to see alot coming up from their Motion Graphics department.
