Adobe and Cut&Paste: “See What’s Possible”

When I saw that the grand prize for the recently announced “See What’s Possible” Challenge from Adobe and Cut&Paste was $20,000 USD, I did a double-take.

Upon hearing about the event a few weeks ago, I agreed to spread the word not because Motionographer would make any money from it (it won’t), but because I believed in Cut&Paste’s ability to bring designers together so they can have a great time and be their best.

I had no idea the jackpot would be so big. But there it is. In black on white on the competition site. Adobe and C&P aren’t messing around, apparently.

And check out the judges: Alexei Tylevich (Logan), Jonathan Notaro (Brand New School), Nando Costa (Nervo) José Gomez (Shilo), Adina Sales (Blacklist) and Victor Newman (Freestyle Collective). Pretty solid lineup, no?

I’m really hoping this event shines a spotlight on some new talent. This is exactly the kind of opportunity that could give up-and-coming scrappers their break. I got into this wild world of mograph through a contest sponsored by Creative Commons, so I’m a firm believer in their power.

Plus, they’re a hell of lot more fun than 98% of the client work out there.

Now go create some awesome stuff. Just make sure to read the rules first.

Anybody know is this the new photoshop logo? Looks awful.

rothermel

please mark, enlighten me on why its awful.

Marc B.

Cuz it kinda looks like some chat icon. Prefer the current adobe icons.

I have to agree 100% with Marc… that is UGLY for a logo.

najork

That looks like the logo of a kids science toy.

AE and PS are trades as much as they are software. For logo reference they should be looking at the Freemasons and such. Something that would look good as a prison tattoo.

It’s strange they’ve not started fostering some arcane mumbo jumbo, like typographers have “Lorem Ipsum.” Even 3D people get to have their teapot.

Don’t mean to be negative but… to enter the competition you are probably the kind of person that works a lot with Adobe software. So you’re quite likely to be using their up to date software. So surely the prize of CS3 isn’t a great incentive for *most of* the people Adobe are trying to attract in this competition… No?

del_razor

I agree with DrSnooze.. however.. i would love to have a copy of cs3 master collection for home use.. currently I’m using cs2 at home and work on the latest versions at the office..

I was going to make some crack about adobe being another big company exploiting raw talent with yet another lame VIDEO contest that is nothing more than a waste of time….for every one- even the audience….

BUT that was until I saw the 20,000 dollar prize….HMMMM not bad.

This seems like something worth pursuing.

Good for ADOBE!!!
