Psyop: Save the Honeybees

Psyop’s latest for Haagen Dazs is a compact tale of unrequited love set to an operatic soundtrack. I kinda wish this was a :60 instead of a :30 spot, though. The voiceover feels rushed, like putting the check down before asking if I’d like dessert and a cappuccino (yes, thanks).

The close-up of the bee approaching the stamen makes up for it a bit, though. The whole scene is charged with a palpable eroticism and sense of expectation. Then the wind comes along for a mighty cock block. (It’s just jealous because no one likes it.)

Also note that the gold inlay on the flower petals echoes a similar gold pattern on the bee’s forehead—a subtle suggestion that these two organisms were destined for each other. I love details like that.

This is psyop?
I’m sorry i don’t like this one even though the CG is superb and pro. I guess bobotunes could repeat some of his comments he wrote on shilos rubber spot.

I wish it was longer too–I wonder if it was initially a longer piece that was edited down. I think it is really beautiful, though.

Agree it feels too short, some really nice details though.

Sunny

I think the piece is wonderful and perfectly executed. It’s a nice combination of Pysop storytelling and supurb VFX. Save the honey bees dammit.

Damn! dave the honey bees people! That was really beautiful and very touching… Notice the bee’s face as the wind was blowing him away, it was like holding for dear life… :(

Save the honey bees!

psyop excellence! but the “save the honeybee” by eating icecream is a joke, isn’t it?

yesterday I heard a “save the manatee” spot on the radio.(really). I’m not sure I have enough compassion to spread around.

nice spot, though! I agree with the others, I wish it were longer.

Saw on another blog that this one was done in Psyop LA.
Nice spot. I too wish it were longer.

I wish they’d used another voice over. it really brings me out of the world they created. sounds like she’s trying to sell me something. dude, let’s save the honey bees. we can by ice cream after.

kmfix

Beautiful work… But some people are allergic to bees. Who’s going to save them?

Beaver

Very cool. Good job Psyop people.

notyrmamasan

kmfix, that has to be the most absurd response I’ve seen around here in a long while.
PS> this spot done at Psyop NY with two amazing directors from Psyop’s new LA studio
