With up to 100 trillion microorganisms, each human’s gut microbiota (intestinal flora) is a full ecosystem: nearly 1 000 species coexist in harmony in this environment, in a mutual beneficial relationship with their host. But like any living ecosystem, its balance is fragile, and can be affected by various aggressions leading to a gut microbiota imbalance. This gut microbiota imbalance is called “dysbiosis”. The imbalance might manifest itself in the short term by digestive disorders, such as diarrhea, but can also have important consequences on health in the longer term…
