In celebration of the Ronald McDonald Foundation’s 30th anniversary, TBWA Paris, Passion Paris, and emerging Colombian director Juan Pablo Machado unveil the “Tout Proche” (So Close) campaign, a moving homage to the foundation’s mission of bringing families closer to their hospitalized children. The poetic 90-second film, crafted to highlight the strength of family bonds and the importance of closeness in difficult times.
An Inspiring Collaboration
“It was a pleasure to work on this project. TBWA and Passion provided me with a strong foundation of trust and creative freedom, allowing me to fully explore the narrative and artistic aspects of the project,” says Machado.
A Dreamlike Journey of Love and Hope
Set within a quiet home, the story follows a mother as she speaks to her absent child over the phone, bringing the house to life on a journey through breathtaking landscapes. Each step symbolizes the hope, anxiety, and strength of families with hospitalized children, as the house moves toward a place of comfort and reunion, embodying the resilience of family love.
Art Direction and Aesthetic Mastery
Influenced by Japanese animation, Machado’s art direction employs soft pastel hues and intricate details, creating an ethereal, dreamlike setting. Subtle lighting and warm tones bring a unique softness to each scene, immersing viewers in a journey both emotional and visually captivating.
Character Design and Animation Techniques
The character design, inspired by Japanese artistry, captures deep emotion with expressive eyes and fine lines, adding an endearing quality to each figure. The animation was entirely produced within Passion Paris’s 2D studio, utilizing TVPaint for animation, Photoshop for backgrounds, and Blender for 3D modeling, ensuring seamless integration within the film’s visual style.
Producer’s Remarks
Julien De Lestrange, producer at Passion Paris, reflects, “This project was a wonderful opportunity to work with Machado, whose unique vision brought exceptional emotion and aesthetic quality to the campaign. It was a fulfilling experience to collaborate on such a heartfelt project as my first production.”
