Renascent: Lost
Joost has just posted “Lost,” a type-based visual poem, in the Motion Graphics section of Renascent.
“Lost” is a beautiful blend of music (masterfully composed by Richard Emmet), type and animation. Things get really interesting around the halfway mark, just after the twister sequence, when an interplay between content and composition results in an ocular orgasm that contrasts perfectly with the bleak sparseness of the final frames. Very nicely done.
As you can tell from the QT, the project was designed to be displayed across three monitors. Check it out in person at the Millennium Galleries in Sheffield.

Joost never fails to impress me, I’ve been a huge fan of his work for a while. The simplicity of this piece compared to his other 3D work is still enlightening. He is a master of timebased type, and the audio on this piece (although not composed by him) fits perfectly.
I’d like to know which was done first, the audio, or the motion, either way, it works perfectly.
The storm in the middle where the text comes out is cool too… simple, but effective.
Kinda makes me wonder how he planned this in his workspace, 3 seperate comps? or one big one w/ temporary masks? I hardly know my way around after fx, so… id like to know.
