Johnny Kelly: Procrastination
“Procrastination is playing imaginary computer games with your furniture.” Quite possibly my favorite line/visual so far in 2008.
I cannot say enough good things about this brilliant and ceaselessly surprising short from Johnny Kelly (Nexus Productions). It’s a marathon of visual permutations that never gets tiring, even after repeat viewings.
Johnny created “Procrastination” for his MA in animation at the Royal College of Art. It also won the Jerwood Moving Image Award.

great all around, loved the self-referential quality, and the ending was just brilliant. “Procrastination is… not knowing how to finish something.” i’d say he found the perfect way.

Way to go Johnny, I knew it was only a matter of time before it got around!!! His previous animated short “Shelly” is also pretty sweet (and it was a finalist in the Animation category at the 2007 ADAA).

Tho the concepts looks quite the same to me (voice over, theme, etc…) , the motion work by Johnny is farther superior.

This piece is visually exciting at moments. Unfortunately it combines a well-worn subject matter with melodrama. I’m sure no one will agree with me on this one, but it’s heavy-handed tone makes it feel cheesy to me.
Just for the record: the last commenter (”motionographer”) is not Motionographer. Probably pretty obvious, but I just wanted to make sure. K, thanks.
