This blew my mind this morning, anyone actually know how this was created?

ocelot

rather simple process… set up the projectors, then calibrate your scene according to the position of the projector. can either recreate the whole geometry in 3D or bruteforce it in 2D… then once this is done, just go wild…

good part starts around 0:45

R U sure it’s just a “rather simple process”? Looks like some killer Global Illumination and other complex time and efforts.

I’m with ocelot, except maybe for the simple part. This is not global illumination, its done with a projector and real live actual surfaces.

its nice to see someone invent something that has so many people scratching their heads. the vimeo comments are pretty unanimous in that regard.

by the nature of projecting light onto a surface you get bounce light either way, so you dont need to render in any global illumination or anything…

in the vimeo i linked there was a 2D solution done purely in after effects for most of the outline/pattern stuff as well as an actual 3D model which was used for the scenes where you see the shadows crawling over the object.

Wow, I’m thinking this should fall under the main feature feed vs quickie. Excellent!

Reminds me of Pablo Valbuena`s works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v2VxzDFCmU
