A compilation programme featuring 11 short animated films from the oeuvre of feminist animator Monique Renault is now available to stream worldwide, and free of charge, on Eye Film Player, the streaming platform of Eye Filmmuseum in The Netherlands. All films are from the Eye collection and have been recently restored.

Monique Renault (1939) was one of the few female animators working in the Netherlands in the 1970s. Her films are striking for the way they raise issues of women’s liberation in an incisive but cheerful way.
From 1972, Renault was Head of Animation at the French AAA Production studio before relocating to the Netherlands, where she worked as an independent filmmaker. Among other techniques, she uses pencil drawing on paper and rotoscoping. In her early work, she used humour to tackle subjects including women’s liberation, the church’s attitude to women and the arms race.
Animation: Monique Renault, Polly Bouivet, Catherine Delbourg, Eric Sales, Babette Vimenet, Josette Zagar, a collaboration with Jochgem van Dijk
