UArt Media Fest in Kyiv: Winners Showcase Their Works on Europe’s Largest Facade Screens

The second international media-art festival UArt Media Fest took place in Kyiv

The second international media art festival, UArt Media Fest, took place in Kyiv, Ukraine, on the 5th of October, 2024. Artists from Ukraine, the USA, Canada, France, Latvia, Japan and more than 10 countries showcased their works on the largest facade screens in Europe. All the videos were united by the theme “The Universe Within”.

The participants’ works were evaluated by a professional jury of top creative industry experts, including Alan Badoev (UA), a film and video maker and director; Illia Chichkan (UA), an artist and performance author; Leonid Kolosovsky (UA), a music video maker and director; Oleg Malamuzh (UA), an animated film director; Mykola Kabluka (UA), a lighting designer and a founder/ art director of “Expolight” and “Kabluka Light & Digital Sculptures”;  Inna Chut, an entrepreneur, CEO and co-founder of SKVOT school; Krystyna Palianova (UA), a creative director of “MEET FUTURE”; Viktor Pryduvalov (UA), a music video and films director, musician, and a video maker; Jeremy Oury (FR), a French artist and art curator; and Cansu Peker (USA), the founder of Digital Arts Blog and an art curator.

The main criteria for evaluating the works were: the storyline, “richness” of the video sequence (number of plot twists and changes in effects), quality of execution, use of different stylistic techniques and ability to combine them, presence of unique elements in the work, and overall impression.

Three designers from Ukraine became the winners. They will receive grants for further development of their projects: $3,000 and $1,000 for the first and the second place, respectively, as well as the opportunity to cooperate with MEET FUTURE and showcase their works on the largest media platforms in the world.

Ukrainian motion designer Mykyta Barko took first place. His works were characterized as having a deep personal approach and artistic expression. As part of the competition, Mykyta presented a large-scale art installation in an illustrative style called “Memories”.

“In my work, I drew and animated photos of Ukraine from my gallery of 2019-2022 to convey my feelings. I love Kyiv, I love Ukraine. I am sure that each work presented at this year’s festival is a significant contribution to the creative future of our country,” said Mykyta Barko, the winner of UArt Media Fest 2024.

The second place went to video producer Dmytro Zernytskyi, who has been producing graphics for over a decade, collaborating with international companies to create advertising, entertainment, and informational content that conveys ideas, knowledge, and emotions. His work, “Green Light”, symbolizes the freedom of ideas from the boundaries of routine.

The winner of the special nomination for “Innovative Approach” with the work “Silence” was Xander Hype, a Ukrainian 3D designer who creates visual shows for screens. He specializes in combining technology with artistic enrichment, captivating the audience with dynamic 3D compositions that move them to the world of the future.

The festival was organized by the Gulliver multifunctional complex in cooperation with the international company MEET FUTURE.

“For a whole hour, the facade screens of the Gulliver shopping center turned into a spectacular art installation and a platform for broadcasting messages from artists around the world. This once again emphasizes that the international creative community’s awareness of Ukraine and our creative capabilities are growing. As the holder of the largest media facades in Europe, we simply could not help but present the city with a project for the development of Kyiv as a technological and creative center,” said Kateryna Zhurakivska, Marketing Director of Gulliver.

“The jury members had a difficult task: there were a lot of works and only two nominations. During the discussion, we decided to introduce an additional nomination because one of the works was particularly spectacular. The videos were evaluated according to several criteria. There were real discussions in the judges’ room, because each of us saw something different in the works that caught our attention. I have personally noted several contestants, and I am sure that we will collaborate with them in the future!” said Krystyna Palianova, creative director of MEET FUTURE.

UArt Media Fest became a highlight of Gulliver’s 11th anniversary celebration.
