The “Island of Spark” is a cross-media performance featuring giant screen projections, monumental light sculptures, and ambient lighting effects.
This project was crafted as the centerpiece for the 2021 Hsinchu Lantern Festival, with the goal of highlighting the essence of Hsinchu’s local identity and the theme of “courage.” We took on the challenge of creating a large-scale screen projection aimed at direct interaction with the on-site audience.
This lantern festival was a reflection of the ups and downs people went through during the pandemic. We went with the theme of “Island of Spark” to show that where there’s light, there’s hope, and how Taiwan stands as an island of hope.
The huge 110-meter-wide screen projection, covering almost 180 degrees, blended with the historic Yinghsi Gate.
This mix of old and new, real and virtual, turned into a vibrant display of colors, like a rocket carrying people’s dreams shooting into the sky.
Through stereo sound design and surround lighting effects, the audience was led into a splendid and magical audiovisual experience that showcased the image of Hsinchu and Taiwan.
