60th Anniversary of Casio Calculators | DAQ Studio

This project celebrates six decades of innovation through a single visual journey. Commissioned by CASIO for the 60th anniversary of its calculators, the piece revisits the evolution of an object that has transformed how millions of people interact with mathematics. Through a blend of design, illustration, and animation, the project aims to capture both the technological milestones and the emotional connection people have with these iconic devices.

The project was directed, illustrated, and animated by DAQ Studio, a Barcelona-based image-making studio dedicated to crafting visual narratives and bold imagery for editorial and creative brands worldwide.

The animated video created for CASIO travels through six decades of innovation, highlighting how these devices have contributed to making mathematics more accessible to everyone. The piece showcases some of the brand’s most iconic models and reflects on their historical and cultural impact.

CASIO requested an engaging anniversary video capable of connecting past and present, resonating with long-time users as well as new generations discovering the brand. For DAQ Studio, it represented an opportunity to reinterpret devices that have shaped how millions of people learn, calculate, and relate to numbers.

Creatively, the main challenge laid in condensing 60 years of evolution into a cohesive narrative. This was achieved by structuring the video chronologically and giving each decade a distinct visual identity, ranging from the retro aesthetics of the 1960s to today’s clean and minimal designs.

From a technical standpoint, blending 2D and 3D animation into seamless transitions required close coordination between illustration, modeling, and compositing. This integration ensured a consistent visual language and a smooth, dynamic flow throughout the entire piece.
