A new video for Daft Punk’s “Contact” is out now! Made in collaboration with Epic Games, the visual builds on the world Magnopus created for The Daft Punk Experience, which launched in Fortnite on September 27.
In the opening sequence of the game, players are launched through a portal into a kaleidoscopic audio-visual odyssey before arriving in the Daft Punk Experience. The “Contact” video follows the two Daft Punk robots as they embark on that same journey themselves – drifting through space toward a mysterious flashing signal that pulls them into an emotional, high-intensity voyage filled with nods to moments across their career.
While the initial in-game experience was built for real-time interactivity, Magnopus was able to leverage the source assets and creative direction to produce a final, high-quality render. They adjusted the lighting, camera work, and effects to enhance the narrative for a passive viewing experience, ensuring the emotional impact was retained. Throughout this process, they worked closely with the Daft Life team to ensure every frame honored the band’s legacy and aligned with their creative vision for the music video.
Symbolic of both beginnings and endings, “Contact” closes Daft Punk’s landmark final album Random Access Memories, while serving as the opening sequence of The Daft Punk Experience. On 25th October, Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter opened his surprise DJ set at Paris’s Centre Pompidou (as part of the Because Beaubourg celebration) with the track, underscoring its enduring resonance. The event, which drew over 40,000 attendees across two days, marked the 20th anniversary of Because Music and the Centre Pompidou’s five-year closure for renovations – a fitting moment of transition as Daft Punk’s legacy continues to evolve.
