This 15-second animation loop reimagines the final scene of Brian De Palma’s ‘Scarface’, inspired by Argentina’s 2021 law banning characters on sugary kids’ products, a change that impacted my hometown’s beloved ‘Capitán del Espacio’ alfajor.
The animation links the candy’s lost astronaut character to the fate of Tony Montana.
Driven by a desire to reconnect with my childhood, this project aims to channel the cinematic essence of 80’s sci-fi films that shaped my formative years.
I focused on using colour to evoke emotion, with fiery reds symbolizing anger and death, and deep blues representing sadness and threat. The night scenes, with their high-contrast rim lights, smoke, and vibrant hues, are a direct homage to the cinematography of that era.
This project was not just a creative exercise but a personal milestone, a way to put my years of experience to the test and prove to myself that I was ready for such an ambitious endeavor. I hope this piece resonates with those who share a love for 80’s films and the nostalgia of a millennial childhood.
