“Extraviado” is the new single from DJ, Producer, and Graphic Designer Dementira (Ariel Altamirano), an artist with extensive experience in the local electronic and independent music scene. The track draws on house and Afropop sounds, while maintaining the Latin American and emotive approach that characterizes the Santiago-based producer’s sound.
The single includes a video illustrated and animated entirely by Dementira himself, set in Santiago, Chile, and starring an anonymous character who takes a long walk through different neighborhoods and locations in the city.
During the walk, sometimes accompanied by a canine friend, despite the passage of time, he reconnects with the city and remembers precious moments he has experienced in these places, both with friends and family. In this way, the city itself becomes a protagonist.
“The video was born as an ode to Santiago after the last few years, turbulent times that the city has had to face in the aftermath of the pandemic and the social uprising, in addition to the hangover from the constitutional processes. I wanted to offer an intimate and personal perspective, and at the same time invite viewers to notice those details that make an ordinary person, despite everything, love their city,” explains Dementira.
Rotoscoping, parallax effect, and 2D are some of the animation techniques used by Altamirano in the creation of the video for “Extraviado,” which also shows influences from Japanese animation.
The piece follows in the footsteps of several graphic works previously created by the artist, from album covers for various musicians to the creation of the video for “El Melocotón,” included on his latest EP, Antorcha (2022), which won Best Animation at the 2022 In-Edit Chile Festival.
