Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback – Main Title Design | Simonian
Simonian was approached by series producers to design a main title sequence for this four-part docuseries exploring the decade-long struggle that the black quarterback has faced to gain opportunity and equality in the NFL.
The sequence centers around a central trophy figure representing a seemingly immovable and limited perception of what a quarterback can look like. As a counterpoint to the trophy, a classic film projector is presented; the type that would be used to review game film. The projector projects images of some of the great black quarterbacks throughout history onto the trophy. These men and their stories begin to cause the trophy to fracture and collapse, breaking old paradigms and clearing the way for a new mindset of just who can occupy the position of Quarterback.
Simonian was honored to contribute to this important project helping shed light on past wrongs. Special thanks to producers Maria Taylor, Eddie Michaels, Michael Yarvitz, Bill Wolff, Joe Tuck and Matt Yonks. Now streaming on Peacock.
