GOOSEBUMPS SADNESS – A Visual Journey Through the Emotion

Sadness is the first chapter of a tetralogy of visual metaphors exploring human emotion through immersive visuals, mixed media, and symbolic storytelling. This first chapter invites the viewer to enter the world of sadness as a metaphor. The film takes a therapeutic approach, viewing sadness not as a negative emotion, but as a necessary and transformative one.

The short film narrates the emotional process of recognising, supporting and managing sadness. It is an introspective journey that becomes a spatial, melancholic metaphor: we float in a dark, dense universe full of beauty that we cannot see because of our emotions.

Sadness drags us through dense shapes that absorb light, pulling us into a black hole like negative thoughts do, preventing us from seeing the good in life. Inside this black hole, all the elements fuse to create a floating rock in space: dense, heavy and rough. But we can see minerals shining within it. A sign that something valuable lies within. The rock falls like a meteor, breaking into fragments as it falls, revealing a shining, beautiful diamond. This symbolises the idea that beauty can emerge from sadness.

The diamond travels through space as a meteor, leaving a striking trail, and falls onto the same planet where it all began, shrouded in fog, and we witness a diamond rain. This is how we can witness the final moment of emotional processing, and recognise the positive aspects of sadness if we embrace it.
