This short film (1 min 52 sec, 2D hand-drawn animation with digital post-effects) explores the depth of tension within one’s soul and life, stretched between light and darkness, oppression and freedom, turbulence and release. It is both confrontation and dialogue, a story of twists and contrasts that ultimately gestures toward a possibility of spaciousness, freedom, and everlasting love.
Translating Jacob Collier’s richly layered music into imagery and movement was a transformative artistic journey for Director, Animator, and Producer, Marie Lavis. She sought to mirror the song’s dualities through her visual language, contrasts of black and white, density and openness, while maintaining a balance between sound and image. This exploration of duality is central to her practice and continues to shape the way she creates and communicates.
