About the Visual Language
Sakura Gansha is a AI music video performed by Siri Lee and directed by Sijin Liu, created in collaboration with AI artist Ruby Nian and animator Hsin Lin. Blending Showa era aesthetics with handcrafted techniques, AI generation and live action, the piece explores female sexual autonomy through stylised symbolism.
Inspired by Japanese Showa era poster design, the visual language draws on bold graphic compositions, screen print like textures, and a vivid palette of neon blue, vermilion orange and gold. Set to a playful enka inspired track, the visuals employ floral and fruit motifs, particularly mangoes, a Japanese slang reference associated with feminine intimacy. These symbols suggest desire without direct exposure, leading to a climax that remains metaphorical and led by the female subject.
Cultural Context and Creative Challenges
The film uses symbolic language rooted in East Asian traditions, where intimacy is often conveyed indirectly. Mangoes and blooming flowers function as coded metaphors rather than literal representations. A key challenge was balancing cultural sensitivity with visual suggestion, while integrating AI generated imagery with a handcrafted aesthetic. The final work adopts a hybrid visual language that feels contemporary, intimate and emotionally grounded.
