Strings Cut is an intense kinetic experiment that explores the visual architecture of Hollywood cinema over the past decade. Bound by two uncompromising rules — strict center-framed composition and continuous match-cutting — this 80-second edit orchestrates a seamless flow across 107 different films, synchronized to a frantic, hyper-dynamic violin score.
Still from Strings Cut, edited by Nikita Didenko. A red-haired figure anchors the center-framed composition.
Instead of a standard montage, the project builds an abstract narrative driven entirely by motion vectors and geometric shapes. The timeline evolves through distinct phases: characters turning from the screen, explosive frontal movements, and hidden visual links between circular geometries found in completely unrelated blockbusters.

In an era of generative AI, this piece is a testament to human editorial intuition. Every single cut was placed manually, with some shots flashing on screen for a mere 5 frames to match the accelerating BPM of the soundtrack. Sourcing and mapping thousands of individual shots required a meticulous hybrid workflow, combining the shot-logging platform Shotdeck with hundreds of hours of manual, frame-by-frame film analysis.
