The ‘State of Flux’ opening film was a cornerstone of the inaugural Flux Festival’s branding, seamlessly integrated within the overall identity crafted by Logan (from the logo design, to the website, to motion interstitials, down to wristbands.) Designed to set the stage for the high-energy main event featuring artists, speakers, and performers, the film served as a re-introduction of the Flux brand, it’s evolution and growth.
“We wanted to inspire a feeling of re-birth and re-emergence, and to reflect the state of charged, ambivalent anticipation that defines today’s cultural zeitgeist” Alexei Tylevich, ECD Logan.
Stylized portraits of the festival speakers were designed, sculpted and 3D-printed. The iconic Flux logo was used as a starting point in creating a series of sculpted objects in motion, inhabiting and interacting with a series of atmospheric spaces. This quite literate incorporation of the logo and the speakers into the visuals was intentional in its self-referential redundancy: referencing nothing but itself. The sequence plays as a restrained study of form and light, filled with allusions to art objects on display, with a heavy dose of sci-fi signifiers. Technology-infused art is at the core of the festival’s program and the opening was meant to encapsulate that notion.
