We recently partnered with Australian electronic music duo Empire of the Sun on the music video for their single, “High and Low.” Using a mix of live-action and fantastical CG animation, we visualized the experience of a psychedelic trip, weaving together two worlds: the physical reality of the journeyers and their surreal emotional destination, a fantastical world of which Empire of the Sun’s duo serve as the “emperors.” The gorgeous, surreal visual journey captures the song’s euphoric celebration of the innocence and boldness of youth.

For years, Vinicius Costa has been developing his artistic voice by crafting fantastically detailed surreal scenes. Like CG mashups of Magritte, Salvador Dalí and a dash of Max Ernst, Costa’s works are elegantly composed postcards from dreamworlds where machine-like architecture mingles with exotic organic objects.
“A Romantic Drama” (2014)
Teaming up with co-directors Guto Terni and Sam Mason, Vinicius’ recently released music video for Empire of the Sun’s “High and Low” is a sustained trip through the artist’s mind. An ambitious live action production, the project was produced through Roof, the studio established in 2012 by Vinicius, Guto and executive producer Crystal Campbell.
